UC EXHIBIT

What is an exhibit?
An exhibit is an event at which an individual intends to showcase a collection of his masterpiece, mostly in the form of art such as paintings and fashion designs.

In the University of the Cordilleras Theater, such an occasion is being held this month in order to display the students’ craft. It is intended to make the viewers appreciate not just the beauty of these arts but to also enlighten them about the message behind it. It is also aimed at boosting the students’ confidence in themselves and their talents at the same time giving a chance for the people to praise their works and somewhat, in a way, open the world to drown themselves with joy while watching the abilities of these youngsters unfold before them and for them to try and comprehend their opinions and feelings.

Life, for instance, it is the subject most reflected by say, paintings or history exhibits. It gives viewers the opportunity to see the elegance and purity of humanity.
These things could be witnessed this December in the UC theatre. The best the University’s artists can offer. The best way to start celebrating Christmas by letting the beauty of expression conquers your system and soul first.

The University of the Cordilleras held its annual Library and Information Services Month for this year. It is an event meant to recognize the role of the library in helping students and teachers in their research and aims to supply them with as much information as possible.

Books are probably the oldest guide a human being have. It is a source of wisdom, a vast source of information about cultures, traditions, practices and beliefs of people all throughout the world. It exist as a body of information waiting for the person in need to open and explore it. Today with the domination of technology, it has become in a way, depressing to see people often relying on their gadgets to look for information. Sure, it make things easier for them but it still stands that books are more detailed, more accurate and vivid. Still, it made books look like a thing of the past, a relic, something which is destined to stay in library shelves to dust and rot. On Wednesday, December 2, 2015, it was shown in the event that only 36% of the students uses the books in the  UC library for research, far lower than the 50% target student required by CHED or Commision on Higher Education. Most students prefer the internet.

Dr. Donna Marie Oyam, one of the recognized individual by the UC library is one of those few that was transformed by the power of the book into someone who is a living proof of success. She knows the way books influences life, as a student and a human being. For her, a book is not just a compilation of papers and writings, it is knowledge, an inspiration, something that illuminates emotion. Something she among others hopes students should realize.

For the students, may they one day open their eyes to the importance of books and libraries in shaping their life and future.

Historya Dance Production

            Magnificent!! Dazzling!! Amazing!!
These are the words that I could think of to describe the performance of the team behind the Historya Dance Production that have been performing for around two years and counting all around our country, the Philippines, not through a movie or a big screen but by performing it up close, in front of viewers and spectators of different ages.

Promoting and raising awareness about the history of our country are only some of the purposes that drives this team to perform their elegant dances depicting events in our history.

On the 13th day of October 2015, these group of talented performers along with the other staff members of the production team visited the University of the Cordilleras to do what they do best, dance. Yes, dance. But this "dance" is not just the typical dance we see everyday, this is a dance with a lot of significance to the viewers.

The talented performers grooved and danced to the music showing and depicting what the country was like before. From trading with the Chinese, the entrance and introduction of Islam, arrival of Ferdinand Magellan, the colonization of our nation by Spaniards, the execution of our national hero, Jose Rizal, arrival of the Americans and the coming of the Japanese to events and occurrences that shaped our nation now. Aside from that, they let the viewers and spectators witness the cultures and traditions of the different regions of our country through their colorful costumes and electrifying dances.

As one of the spectators during that day's performance, I realized that these talented performers, the brains behind the show and the staffs, in my own opinion do this all around the country to not just entertain, but to send a message to everyone about unity, appreciation and love for our country and to never forget the sacrifices of our countrymen that helped form and gave independence to our country.
